We spend a lot of time at work (including remote work) and often find ourselves living and collaborating with other colleagues for a large part of our day. We bring a lot of personal baggage to the workplace such as our experiences, our problems and our emotions.
In recent decades there has been increasing attention to emotions in the workplace and to the wellbeing of employees and collaborators. Fortunately, many companies devote attention to these aspects precisely because the more people feel valued, the more they perform and both company and personal productivity increase.
However, there can always be conflicts, episodes of aggression and stalking, bullying etc. It is therefore essential to work on preventing potential conflict situations and discomfort in the workplace.
Empathic listening to the experiences of collaborators is very important. As a psychologist, I help companies analyse and better understand areas of weakness in communication with and among collaborators and how to implement strategies for improving interaction between different people while respecting their roles and spaces.
The role of the psychologist in a company can be very flexible and interpreted in many ways. A company can make a psychological support service available.
An alternative can be to offer employees an individual or group counselling programme. There can be brainstorming sessions on certain sensitive topics within the company and to better understand the individual and collective needs of the people in the company, who are the main and most important resource of an organisation.
